While on a trip to D.C. Frantzces’ things were stolen. Her book bag had everything you can think of such as her mac laptop, her kindle, her phone and a bunch of other items.

After having a mini-meltdown, she was able to see some of the lessons that she was supposed to learn from this incident. It brought her to remember the lessons of stoicism and excess. Our attachments to things can create an over-identification with our possessions.

If you’re unfamiliar with stoicism you can get a bit more insight here. One of the pioneers of stoicism as Seneca. He wrote a letter which is called Letter 18 On Festivals and Fasting. Frantzces explains how both this philosophy and this letter helped her to deal with the loss of her things.
